Every Day Is Earth Day
Earth Day is fast approaching and I always look for fun, enriching activities to do with the kids to make the day meaningful and memorable. We have done our share of creating art out of recyclable items, planting seeds and cleaning up parks. There are an endless number of activities and projects for this time of year.
However, I wanted to celebrate a company I recently discovered who treats every day like it is Earth Day. Have you heard of Gorilla Socks? Are you following them on Instagram? I wasn't until I heard about them, or rather saw their company highlighted on the Instagram page ofhttp://instagram.com/dappered.dave
He shared a couple of items from their amazing selection:
The 'Polka Loca'
I was intrigued by the mission behind the brand.
A Few Facts About Gorilla Socks:
WHO ARE THEY?
They are a premium sock company based in NYC and provide colorful bamboo socks that support gorilla conservation. They were two University flatmates who wanted to create a socks brand that had a social cause. Today Gianluca is based in NYC while Gav in London.
They chose bamboo because they wanted a first-rate product. As anyone who tried bamboo knows it has many benefits compared to cotton among them:
•Fastest growing plant in the world
•Grows naturally with little or no need of pesticides
•Yields the same volume as cotton from 10% of land area
•Uses 1/3 the amount of water compared to cotton
•Antibacterial, anti-fungal and odor resistant
•Luxuriously soft, yet stronger than cotton
•Insulation, helps you stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
OUR CHARITABLE CAUSE
The exciting part of this project, and something they are very proud of, is their partnership with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, one of the most active charities in Africa with a focus on the preservation of the mountain gorilla, their habitat and local communities. Mountain gorillas are one of the most endangered animals in the world. Everyday they are endangered from habitat loss, human poaching and war. On top of that baby gorillas are often kidnapped and used as pets or sold to zoos. They hope, through their work, to be able to help the NGO with their amazing work down in Africa.
I really wanted to support their mission and of course I really loved the socks!
Speaking of gorillas, how about some jungle inspired treats ?
And for the adults ...
