Life's Truest Treasures: Real Mom Life
I grew up reading and watching Little House on The Prairie and was always intrigued and inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I came across this quote the other day and I was not surprised to find out it was from her.
"I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet simple things of life that are the real ones after all."
Even now as a grown up I haven't lost my fascination for her life as a daughter, sister, teacher, wife, mother and author. She seemed to take every hardship and disappointment that came her way with such strength and character. She appears to have acquired her life's philosophy from her mother. Her mother -"Ma" - was the rock of the Ingalls family. Caroline Quiner Ingalls provided the stability in their lives, teaching her girls to be ladies, even when they were moving from place to place in the Wild West.
Schooling for the Ingalls family was sporadic at best. Ma always wanted to settle in one place and let the girls attend school, but very offen they settled in places where no schoolhouses had yet been established. When that happened she taught the children herself. Reading and Writing were important, as was learning how to smoke a hog after it was butchered. The wisdom she passed on was practical. Gentle, hardworking Ma did what was necessary to help her family survive with grace, whether it was sewing or gardening or cooking. She taught them to make do with what they had and be grateful for it. It would not have occurred to Laura or her Ma that she would achieve fame and that her award winning books would inspire a hit TV series produced by Michael Landon. They were more practical than that. But readers of all ages, and in more than forty countries have been eager to read about Laura's family-her sweet Ma-her fiddle playing Pa-and the little houses of the past. Because Ma taught her daughter to find joy in the simple things of life, her pioneer spirit continues to inspire people of all ages.
I recently connected with another mom who is truly an inspiration. She is M.J. , the founder and owner of Dear Isabella.
She created the Blue Faerie Earrings I am wearing. You can purchase them and find complete details here https://www.dearisabella.net/products/blue-faerie-earrings.
Dear Isabella Larimar Jewelry Co is an online boutique jewlery brand based out of Philadelphia. They specialize in delicate, and beautiful minimalistic and statement hand-crafted pieces and only use the Larimar stone. Each stone is hand-selected to ensure the utmost quality and detail. MJ named the brand after her daughter, Isabella. She wanted to pay her homage by fabricating hand-made precious and unforgettable pieces made from a very rare Gem only found on the island where she was born: The Dominican Republic!
Larimar lovely sea-blue color is very reminiscent of the Caribbean seas.
Its color can range from very light blue to greenish blue, and from medium sky blue to 'volcanic blue'. It rarely forms in solid colors; most stones exhibit white circular marbling patterns. The blue color is owed to traces of copper. Some stones may also exhibit spots of green, red or brown as a result of oxidation and the presence of iron.
This Gem represents peace and clarity radiating healing and love energy.
In The Book of Stones, Robert Simmons writes "Larimar is a stone of tremendous benefit...providing the power of clear communication and the emotional strength and stability that enable one to speak from the heart. . . .
While no one knows for sure about the effects of Larimar, no one can deny its obvious beauty and the impact of a stone this glorious is indisputable.
One of MJ's dreams and goals was to start a business that would allow her to provide for Isabella while staying at home with her and the second is to create jobs and employ women in Philadelphia as well as the Dominican Republic where much help is needed for those just like her, whom are facing the challenges of limited to no maternity leave.
Creating and running this company while raising Isabella has been extremely challenging yet so rewarding for her but MJ spoke to me about being blessed with amazing collaborators and the best partner of all: the love of her life and Isabella's father.
Life has been busy and sometimes a bit hectic but she is proud and excited to announce that this summer they will launch their first bridal collection!
Follow and connect with MJ and continue to be amazed and inspired!
Both MJ and 'Ma' are inspiring for many reasons but what I admire the most about them is the way they have proven to turn precious moments with their children into life's truest treasures.
I try to make the moments more special in very simple ways. With just a little bit of planning and really not a lot of effort an afternoon snack can be quite special.
Here are some of my favorites:
I also try to make my moments with my children special and memorable by reading quality children's literature that also builds character. These are my all time favorites because of the messages within about being a good person and caring for others.
