Styling a Classic: Tunics for Spring 2016

A tunic can be like the exclamation point for any springtime separates ensemble. A beautiful tunic can enhance your look by camouflaging problematic areas and showcasing your assets.  Tunics are extremely versatile and can be worn with pants, shorts, and skirts. Because they are loose fitting  tops, they look best with leggings, skinny jeans, and other form fitting pants or bottoms.

A tailor can be your best friend in styling a tunic. Sometimes they just need to be nipped in a bit or shortened to fit your body just right.

I recently found a few great tunics which I love and know I will get lots of use of in the upcoming months.

This top is from tweetumsfashionboutique.com. I love the bright colors and bold pattern. It's easy to style with tights, leggings, jeans, and even over or tucked into a pencil skirt.

These next two tunics are from journeyfive.com. They are both fit and flare style and very comfortable for work or weekend wear.

I found this Bisou Bisou tunic on thredup.com. They have many versions of brand name , many new with tags , tunics at 70% off retail prices.

When choosing and styling a tunic it's important to keep your body type in mind.

Pear shaped : Look for tunics with side vents, not too clingy, with slight taper at the waist , and wide neck to broaden your shoulders.

Choose bright embroidery and chunky necklaces to add bulk to your top half in a flattering way.

Apple shaped: Avoid any clingy top and focus on neckline and legs. Make sure tunic is not too long and has nice v-neck to direct attention up to your face. Avoid long chunky necklaces and instead wear earrings or shorter necklace.

Hour Glass: Look for a more fitted tunic and be sure it fits properly and is not too big.

Full - Figure: Be sure it is not too clingy or too loose. Be sure your collar bone and wrists are visable. These are often slimming features to show off when you are wearing a tunic.

Straight Shaped: Because a normal tunic doesn't allow you to create curves, look for one with buttons and a belt to create the illusion of curves.

Thanks for visiting the blog today.

Tunic tops are both classic and flattering and a great way to add fun and style to any wardrobe.

Hope you enjoyed this and that you are inspired to create new looks for Spring 2016.
